Pineapple Pedal Academy at FIAO

Join Pineapple on Saturday, August 1, for a special Pineapple Pedal Academy to learn how to ride a bike at FIAO’s Benson Avenue Open Street.

Designed for children ages 5 and up, this beginner friendly class helps young riders build the confidence and skills they need to transition from training wheels to a two wheel bicycle. Over the course of two hours, Pineapple instructors will guide participants through balancing, pedaling, starting, stopping, and steering in a supportive, hands-on environment.

What children will learn

Participants will practice how to:

• Balance on a bicycle
• Start riding independently
• Pedal smoothly
• Stop safely
• Steer and control their bicycle

No previous two-wheel riding experience is required.

What to bring

Each child must bring:

• A properly sized bicycle
• A bicycle helmet
• Water and comfortable clothing suitable for riding

Loaner bicycles are not currently guaranteed. Families should plan to bring their own bicycle and helmet unless loaner availability is specifically noted during registration.

Registration policy

Pre-registration is strongly recommended because the class is limited to 20 students. Walk-on participants are welcome only if space remains available.

About the FIAO Benson Avenue Open Street

FIAO’s Benson Avenue Open Street will take place from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM and will feature free, family-friendly activities throughout the afternoon, including learn-to-ride programming, free bicycle repair, live music, children’s activities, and a community resource fair.

Community partners and organizations will include NYC Emergency Management, Transportation Alternatives, Pineapple Bike Repair / Café, Street Lab, and others. Nicoletti coffee, LMNT, and a variety of organic teas will also be available.

The event is weather permitting. Any cancellation or weather-related updates will be announced on the morning of the event.
